The year ahead promises to see lots of activity in Wembley with a full schedule of events to promote the town centre as a vibrant place to visit and shop.
The year kick-started with a Partnership Day on 29 January 2009 at St John’s Road. It was attended by the Community Safety team, Brent Neighbourhood Watch, Brent Safer Neighbourhood team, Wembley Town Centre Management and other Council units including Streetcare.
The event focussed on raising awareness about robbery and antisocial behaviour, focusing on paan, spitting and public drinking. Staff from Community Safety and partners were available to property mark mobile phones, answer local policing queries and give general crime prevention advice.
The French Market will be returning to Wembley on 23 and 24 April 2009, bringing the tastes of Normandy to London. The market will also visit the High Road on 15 and 16 October.
‘Make Wembley Shine’ Spring Clean Up debuted 2008 and was hailed a success. It will be held again in May 2009 to make Wembley a cleaner and more inviting place. All town centre businesses will be invited to participate.
Wembley World Flavour will take place from 3-5 September, showcasing world music at two venues in Wembley and culminating in a final outdoor festival in the town centre.
If you are interested in hosting one of the World Music Nights please contact Osita Udenson, Wembley Town Centre Manager, on 020 8937 5064 or email her from here .
Finally, Christmas in Wembley will begin on 20 November 2009 with the Christmas Lights Switch On. As customary, Town Centre Management will be looking to attract a big celebrity name for the switch on.
The plan is to stage the event in the New Central Square should it be ready.
This list of events is by no means exhaustive. We hope to add to it by capitalising on opportunities such as the Olympics. |
